Text
Transliteration
Mode (ženy: moda) ani lefanecha, melech chaj ve-kajam, še-hechezarta bi nišmati be-chemla, raba emunatecha.
Translation
I give thanks to You, living and enduring King, for You have mercifully restored my soul within me. Great is Your faithfulness.
The Hebrew liturgical text is in the public domain; the translation is original.
Notes and differences between rites
The prayer does not contain the name of God, and so it may be said even before ritual hand-washing.
The text is not Talmudic; it is attested in the early modern period and entered the siddurim gradually. The closing words “rabbah emunatekha” echo Lamentations 3:23.1
It is one of the first prayers that young children learn, in all communities.
